The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced yesterday that the 2009 Nobel Prize in economics to Elinor Ostrom and Oliver E. Williamson. Ostrom was recognized "for her analysis of economic governance, especially the commons". Ostrom's research has touched on many types of commons, knowledge among them.

The Fedora Commons repository software released a "Getting Started with Fedora" guide. BioMed Central's OA journal BMC Medical Genomics has been accepted for tracking by Thompson Reuters and will get its first impact factor in June 2010.

SHERPA is hosting a contest for OA-inspired haiku. Entries are due October 16. OASPA is hosting a Webinar with 5 OA publishers. The Electronic Green Journal, an early OA journal, will unveil a new Web interface.

The DSpace repository software is now used in more than 700 installations worldwide. The Austrian Science Fund announced new grants to support the publication of OA books.
