The PKP Private LOCKSS Network (PLN) has now been in production for a little over a year, and the PKP team would like to share some data on what the PLN is preserving. The PKP PLN is a free service that uses open-source software and a network of partners to create a “dark archive” of OJS journals that is distributed across the globe.
The Sixth PKP International Scholarly Publishing Conference is now open for registration. Our program is still growing but take a look at what we have planned so far, including a great selection of lightning talks (with more to come). With perspectives from around the world, covering topics from library-based publishing to XML to open educational resources, we do hope you will join us in Montreal on August 2nd, 3rd, and 4th!
PKP is currently developing its new strategy plan for 2017 – 2021 to guide our efforts over the next 5 years. To ensure we are meeting the needs of the international PKP community, we would like to share the latest draft of the document with you and invite your feedback. The document is intended to be brief, high-level, and will be used to assist us in making more detailed decisions that will become part of our more focused work plans.
We are pleased to announce that the PKP 2017 Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 15 from 9am – 11am Pacific Time. To maximize participation, the meeting will be online, so everyone is welcome to attend. Agenda items will include updates on current OJS and other software developments, progress on grants and other funding initiatives, research reports, a budget review, a community Q + A session, and more.
Since about March 29, 2017 some reports of widespread “hacking”, or defacement of OJS sites has been causing some concern. The “hacking” has involved pointing to an image that has been uploaded to the affected sites, the presence of which supposedly indicates successful defacement.
We’ve had a few requests to extend the deadline for the call for proposals for the Sixth International PKP Scholarly Publishing Conference, so we’re keeping submissions open until March 31. The conference this year will be held on August 2, 3, and 4, in Montreal and is co-hosted by our friends at Érudit. Montreal is Canada’s second largest city and has a major international airport making travel easy from most locations.
We’re pleased to have confirmed our opening and closing keynote speakers for the Sixth International PKP Scholarly Publishing Conference, being held on August 2, 3, and 4 in Montreal.
The PKP Index is growing rapidly and now contains over 300,000 items from more than 1000 different sources. Using PKP’s Open Harvester System (OHS) software, the PKP Index is open to all journals, proceedings, or monographs using OJS, OCS, or OMP.
We first released Open Conference Systems way back in 2006, just in time for our very first PKP Conference. It was based on OJS 2, with some additional conference-specific functionality (e.g., registrations, scheduling, etc.). Since that time, most of our limited resources have been focused on strengthening OJS, by far our more popular application, and building OMP.
The Public Knowledge Project is pleased to announce the release of OMP 3.1.0. This release includes numerous minor bug fixes and tweaks to further refine the OMP 1.2.0 release. It refines the major workflow changes introduced with that release. The catalog presentation is refined, and now includes support for the HTML-based presentation of book content.
