The Asiatic lion ( Panthera leo persica ) is a subspecies of lion that is native to the Indian subcontinent. The only wild population of Asiatic lions is found in the Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary in the state of Gujarat, India. The Gir Forest is the only place in the world where these lions are found in the wild.
