As I sit here writing this, today is Friday 13 ^th December, 2019 – an ominous and somewhat fitting date given the outcome of yesterday’s general election in the UK (depending on your political stance, of course). Although a week will have passed by the time this is posted, I feel that there is an increased onus on me to try and lift your spirits, perhaps by distracting you with some more light-hearted observations about Christmas TV.

We are inviting abstracts for a publication on the British television series Auf Wiedersehen Pet to mark the 35th anniversary of its first screening. We are interested in a range of contributions including; academic articles, fan responses, reminiscences, revisiting locations, interviews, etc. Auf Wiedersehen Pet first appeared on the television screens in 1983.

Speculative fiction, film, and television series are fast-growing genres, in part because they comment on the present. These genres ask readers to consider environmental, technological, and political events and developments in the world today, and the impacts these may have on the world of the future.

Dear Santa, Well, another year gone. I’ve tried very hard to be good. I’ve tried to look after my family and friends, aimed to be more considerate to people doing difficult customer-facing jobs, and worked doing the best I can writing around half-a-dozen sets of DVD viewing notes, articles for Doctor Who Magazine and TV Years , and fanzine items for the likes of SiG and Celestial Toyroom . Oh, and some blogs.

As I have mentioned, the first original drama series on HBO was Oz – a transgressive and groundbreaking type of prison drama, but unfortunately a show that has been overlooked and forgotten by many viewers and scholars.

The series Black Mirror , first aired on the UK Channel 4 in 2011, has achieved an international standing for its reinvention of speculative anthology television and continues to innovate in the form: the interactive feature-length Bandersnatch (2018) offered viewers a branching, ergodic narrative, multiple endings and the opportunity to experience a type of cyborg textuality through the TV format.
