DataCite and IGSN e.V. are entering the next phase of their partnership supported with a grant by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for the project ‘IGSN 2040 Vision to Execution: Institutionalizing IGSN ID services’. The project is the next step of the partnership between DataCite and IGSN in beginning the transition of the IGSN ID to the DataCite infrastructure, services, and APIs.

Since our founding in 2009, DataCite’s strategy has been led by our community of members and partners around the world. We work with organisations globally to help identify, find, cite, connect, and use research. Our community consists of stakeholders throughout the research lifecycle, including researchers and organisations identifying and citing research resource types.

This year we relaunched DataCite Open Hours, keeping the same focus on community interaction, but also incorporating a section for gathering structured feedback for the DataCite product roadmap and metadata schema. We don’t record Open Hours because we want to create an informal and relaxed environment where everyone can ask questions and share ideas with the presenters and other attendees.

The first strategic priority of DataCite’s vision 2021 is “Building on the DataCite identity. With the publication of the DataCite design manual, we are now taking the first step in our journey to create a consistent visual identity for our organization. In the past couple of months, together with designers, we worked on a variety of aspects of our design.

Earlier this year, DataCite and IGSN announced their roadmap towards a partnership to support the global adoption, implementation, and use of physical sample identifiers. Today, we are pleased to share the announcement of the partnership agreement. DataCite is a community-led organisation with a vision to connect research and identify knowledge.

Four weeks have passed since the DataCite Member Meeting 2021. On September 21 2021, the DataCite Team, our members, and the PID community met virtually and discussed topics ranging from DataCite’s strategic visioning process, the product roadmap and metadata, to the world of PIDs. Leveraging the advantages of an online event, we shared the recordings and slides of the sessions one week later.
