In the past, we’ve tracked basic OJS installations and titles, but we’re now expanding our understanding of how much content our journals are publishing. In order to provide a better sense of how OJS is being used for journal publishing, we have developed graphs and maps focused specifically on journals that publish at least 10 articles per year. In December 2013, the Joint Committee of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) reached its decision on proposals submitted as part of a call for proposals entitled “ Open Access Scholarly Monographs and Monographic Series “. Two out of 17 proposed projects were approved, and both of these use Open Monograph Press.

In October 2013, the Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press (SISP) launched Open SI, a new online production management and publishing system for digital materials built on the Open Monograph Press (OMP) platform. As an early adopter, SISP has contributed to the development of OMP and we are delighted to see Open SI launch.

The PKP Development Team is pleased to announce the release of OJS 2.4.3. This release builds on the 2.4.2 release to collect the numerous minor fixes and tweaks that have since been completed. In addition, it adds Macedonian and Polish language support.

PKP is supporting the Open Library of Humanities (OLH) in developing their open source in-house typesetter, meTypeset. As outlined in their technical roadmap, the ability to parse user-supplied input documents into open XML formats is a key principle of both reduced spending (and therefore a more viable model) and digital preservation.

The Public Knowledge Project, developer of publishing software used by thousands of scholarly journals continues to be among those leading innovation in scholarly publishing with its introduction of article level metrics (ALMs). The purpose of ALMs is to provide a more accurate means for measuring the impact of research at the article level rather than the journal level, as is tradition, said Juan Pablo Alperin of PKP.
