Join the OBF community The OBF welcomes anyone who is involved or plans to become involved in biology-related open source or open science to join our community. There are many ways you can become part of our growing community, regardless of your career stage and experience with open source and open science.

Membership Application The Open Bioinformatics Foundation invites anyone who is involved in or plans to become involved in promoting open source or open science in a biological field to apply for membership. There are no dues at present. The best time and place to join is at the annual BOSC conference, because attendees are automatically deemed eligible based on the fact that they attended BOSC, but you can apply for membership at any time.

Guide for Prospective GSoC Contributors Before you apply Proposals should extend one of affiliated toolkits, not start a new project. If you want to apply with your own idea, it’s best to contact the OBF subproject you’re interested in well before the application deadline, so we can work with you to find a mentor and solidify your project idea and application.

What is the Google Summer of code? Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is an internship program for open-source projects. The program offers eligible GSoC contributors stipends to write code for open source projects over a period of 3 summer months (“flip bits, not burgers”). Farah presents CWLProv at GCCBOSC 2018 The next round of our OBF Travel Fellowships just ended on the 15th of December! This round we have introduced a Review Chair coming from the midst of our community that will help us in reviewing the applications. The role will be filled by Farah Zaib Khan, one of our OBF Travel Fellowship alumni. Farah has successfully applied for the Fellowship twice before.

Dear Biopythoneers, Biopython 1.73 has been released and is available from our website and PyPI. This release of Biopython supports Python 2.7, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6. It has also been tested on PyPy2.7 v6.0.0 and PyPy3.5 v6.0.0. As in recent releases, more of our code is now explicitly available under either our original " Biopython License Agreement" , or the very similar but more commonly used “3-Clause BSD License” .
