Meet the Team is a new series of blog posts introducing different members of the PKP team. First up is James MacGregor. James is Publishing Services Coordinator at PKP, and ensures that PKP’s hosting, external support, consulting, and sponsored development initiatives run smoothly. PKP Publishing Services provides a significant portion of the overall PKP budget, and interest in it continues to grow unabated.

For the past year, the PKP Private LOCKSS Network (PLN) has been in a pilot phase, with the University of Victoria, University of Pittsburgh, University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, Indiana University, and Simon Fraser University testing various aspects of the Network, ranging from the new OJS plugin to the terms of use that journal managers must accept to have their journals be preserved.

PKP is pleased to announce the commencement of a strategic relationship with the Collaborative Knowledge Foundation.  The CKF’s mission is to evolve how scholarship is created, produced and reported. CKF is building open source solutions in scholarly knowledge production that foster collaboration, integrity and speed.

PKP is pleased to announce its support for the Hypothes.is initiative to bring a  pervasive implementation of web-based annotation support across scholarship, based on open technologies and an open web protocol. They have invited a wide range of participants from the scholarly publishing sector to support their initiative and this is a very natural commitment for PKP.

The Public Knowledge Project is pleased to announce the release of OJS 2.4.7. This release builds on the 2.4.6 release to collect the numerous minor fixes and tweaks that have since been completed. It adds numerous translation updates and several new features. Alignment with Section 508 accessibility guidelines is improved.

Through this partnership, Editage makes available discounted services editing and journal support to users of Open Journal Systems (OJS) created by PKP.

How many journals use OJS? This is one of the most frequent questions that PKP receives and the quickest answer is — a lot. Providing a more specific answer to that question is a challenge and for the past few years PKP has undertaken an annual exercise to count all of the journals currently using OJS as their publishing platform. The first challenge is to attempt to identify all of the OJS instances that are accessible on the Internet.

The look and feel of OJS 3.0 beta was completely overhauled in the final months before release. In this post, I’ll dive into a few of the principles which guided this work, explaining how we used visual hierarchy and consistency to improve the focus and clarity of the UI.
