This year we relaunched DataCite Open Hours, keeping the same focus on community interaction, but also incorporating a section for gathering structured feedback for the DataCite product roadmap and metadata schema. We don’t record Open Hours because we want to create an informal and relaxed environment where everyone can ask questions and share ideas with the presenters and other attendees.

The first strategic priority of DataCite’s vision 2021 is “Building on the DataCite identity. With the publication of the DataCite design manual, we are now taking the first step in our journey to create a consistent visual identity for our organization. In the past couple of months, together with designers, we worked on a variety of aspects of our design.

DataCite is pleased to welcome Mike Bennett to our team. Mike joined DataCite as an application developer in November 2021. Can you tell us a little bit about what you did before you started working for DataCite? Before working for DataCite, I was a developer with the University of Edinburgh Digital Library team.

Earlier this year, DataCite and IGSN announced their roadmap towards a partnership to support the global adoption, implementation, and use of physical sample identifiers. Today, we are pleased to share the announcement of the partnership agreement. DataCite is a community-led organisation with a vision to connect research and identify knowledge.

Joseph joined DataCite as an application developer in October 2021 Can you tell us a little bit about what you did before you started working for DataCite? Prior to joining DataCite I led the repository team at the Brown University Library to develop the Brown Digital Repository.

Four weeks have passed since the DataCite Member Meeting 2021. On September 21 2021, the DataCite Team, our members, and the PID community met virtually and discussed topics ranging from DataCite’s strategic visioning process, the product roadmap and metadata, to the world of PIDs. Leveraging the advantages of an online event, we shared the recordings and slides of the sessions one week later.

DataCite is a membership and community organization and we encourage involvement from people that share our vision. To help guide and support our growth and ongoing development, DataCite has two Steering Groups: the Services and Technology Steering Group and the Community Engagement Steering Group.

I’m glad to report that at the tail-end (hopefully, but probably a long tail just like the reuse of research data) of the dark tunnel that’s the COVID pandemic, there’s a new beginning for me – I’m excited to join DataCite as the Implementing FAIR Workflows Project Lead (remember this ?). Hello! This is Kelvin, I interned with DataCite remotely in Hong Kong this summer. After this internship, I will continue the last year of my Bachelor of Computer Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. My specialization is in Data Science. Yet this is my first trial of working with metadata, and it is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be — in the best way possible. It is really enjoyable to work here.

DataCite was founded in 2009 on the principle of being an open stakeholder governed community that is open to participation from organizations around the world. Today, that continues to be true. Although our services have expanded, we continue to remain grounded to our roots.

As a global community organization, our values and collective efforts are paramount to our success. It is as important to reflect on our strategic direction and continue to define our collective priorities as a community.
