As DataCite continues to scale as a global community with members across 43 countries, it is important that we make sure our operations and policies align to support our growing community of members. Earlier this year we set out the Vision 2020, which included optimising internal operations, systems and processes as one of the strategic priorities for this year.

DataCite occasionally has guest blog posts that illustrate how the community makes use of DataCite services or metadata. In this post, we hear from Richard Wynne from Rescognito, who have started using DataCite metadata to explore how persistent identifiers can be used to recognize a broader set of research contributions.

DataCite is a global community made up of members across the world. This has been an unprecedented year, but we didn’t want to let that stop us from hosting our annual member meeting. The only difference is that this year, like many meetings and conferences, we are going virtual!

As a member organization, it is crucial that all members receive relevant information from us and are kept up to date in a timely manner. For the last couple of years, we have used two google mailing lists: the allmembers list and the allusers list. Last year we announced that we were planning to replace these mailing lists with mailing lists that will be based on member information available in DataCite Fabrica.

Hello! This is the newest addition to DataCite, I am the new intern! I am very excited to be here and full of energy to learn from and provide support to the DataCite Community. I am in my final year of the bachelor’s program International Studies at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.

PIDapalooza is going online in 2021! We wish we could all be together in person for the fifth (!) festival of persistent identifiers, but we’re excited to bring the world’s largest—and longest—virtual PID party directly to your desk, your couch, your balcony—really, anywhere there’s a strong WiFi signal.

Today DataCite is proud to announce the launch of DataCite Commons, available at https://commons.datacite.org. DataCite Commons is a discovery service that enables simple searches while giving users a comprehensive overview of connections between entities in the research landscape.

Last month we announced that DataCite has a new Product Engineering team responsible for DataCite’s Product roadmap. Product Engineering Team I am very happy that Kristian Garza will be joining the Product Engineering team from the 1st of October as a Product Designer. He has been with DataCite as an Applications Developer since 2016. Kristian has been supporting DataCite with product design activities over the past years.

DataCite is looking for a full-stack application developer to join the DataCite development team. DataCite is a leading global non-profit organization that provides persistent identifiers (DOIs) for research. DataCite was founded in 2009 to support the research community in identifying, locating, accessing, and citing research outputs with confidence.

We recognize that as a community-driven organization, our Members make use of various platforms or systems to help them manage their DOI workflow. Many of our Members make use of repository platforms, CRIS systems or other services.

As we continue to evolve, our community remains at the core of everything that we do at DataCite. Our team is committed to delivering our promise of the DataCite mission. Recently we have had some changes in our team. Robin (Product Strategy & Analysis Manager) will be leaving DataCite at the end of August. It is always unfortunate when we lose a DataCite team member and Robin will be missed by us all.
