This blog post explores the difference between “core facilities” in RRID and “facilities” in ROR and provides guidance for those who run facilities on how to effectively use these identifiers. What is RRID and what is its scope? RRIDs (Research Resource Identifiers) help identify a wide variety of resources which are inputs to experiments , especially biomedical experiments.

Global health continues to grapple with a persistent tension between standardized, evidence-based interventions developed by international experts and the contextual, experiential local knowledge held by local health workers. This dichotomy – between global expertise and local knowledge – has become increasingly problematic as health systems face unprecedented complexity in addressing challenges from climate change to emerging diseases.

Vom 16.-18. September 2024 fand in Bonn die fünfte Konferenz des Netzwerks Fluchtforschung unter dem Titel „Regionale und lokale Antworten auf globale Fluchtbewegungen: Kontexte, Herausforderungen, Lösungen“ statt. Über 400 Teilnehmende aus über 50 Staaten kamen zusammen, um sich über den Stand der Forschung sowie aktuelle politische und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen auszutauschen.

Ende Oktober 2024 fand die 14. Ausgabe der Konferenzreihe „Zugang gestalten!“ in Stuttgart statt. Das Hauptthema Das Erbe antreten wurde eifrig von den Teilnehmenden diskutiert. Through the partnership between DataCite and IGSN e.V., DataCite services can be used to register International Generic Sample Numbers (IGSN IDs) for material samples. The blog series ‘IGSN ID Implementation Exemplars’ showcases sample management workflows developed by the community that incorporate IGSN ID registration. In each post, we offer practical guidance on how to work alongside disciplinary sample experts to register IGSN IDs within DataCite services.

Following the IGSN–DataCite partnership, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and AuScope in Australia have been working in parallel to develop sample management systems that include IGSN ID registration. The CSIRO and AuScope systems are based on different repository platforms: Specify versus CKAN. The systems also have different audiences/remits: an internal sample management for national collections versus an open researcher catalogue. Here, we present both to enable the community to compare and contrast these systems.
