The DataCite Annual Community Meeting was held on 12 October 2023. The first thing to notice about this sentence is the subtle, but important, change in the name of the event from being a Member Meeting to a Community Meeting.

In the evolving landscape of open scholarly infrastructure, DataCite is more than an organization; it’s a thriving community of dedicated stakeholders around the globe. Together we have embarked on a journey to redefine the way we interact with research outputs and resources. With our updated tagline, “Connecting Research, Advancing Knowledge,” DataCite is setting a transformative course for the research community.

As a global community, DataCite encourages involvement from people that share our vision: to ensure that research outputs and resources are openly available and connected so that their reuse can advance knowledge across and between disciplines, now and in the future.

Although persistence is essential to DataCite, it was time for an update. That is why we are delighted to officially announce the relaunch of our website with a new layout and design, and with it some revisions and enhancements to our messaging. Let’s go through all the updates so that you have an overview of the most important changes.

Make Data Count has been at the forefront of addressing the critical need to develop open data metrics to enable the evaluation of data usage. The Director of Make Data Count, Iratxe Puebla shares a recap of the recent Make Data Count Summit, which brought together representatives across research and government to explore next steps toward responsible data metrics.

Implementing FAIR Workflows: A Proof of Concept Study in the Field of Consciousness is a 3-year project funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation. In this project, DataCite works with a number of partners on providing an exemplar workflow that researchers can use to implement FAIR practices throughout their research lifecycle. In this blog series, the different project participants share perspectives on FAIR practices and recommendations.

We are thrilled to introduce three new Application Developers who are joining the DataCite team. Each one brings a unique set of skills, experiences, and passions. We are excited to have them on board, and we look forward to their impact in working on the Open Global Data Citation Corpus and other DataCite services. DataCite is thrilled to launch the Global Access Fund (GAF), established to enable organizations worldwide to make their research outputs discoverable.

The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) and DataCite are pleased to announce that PKP is now a DataCite Registered Service Provider. The PKP collaborates with scholarly publishing and infrastructure communities to develop and maintain Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Monograph Press (OMP), and Open Preprint Systems (OPS) publishing software.

Hi everyone– I am very delighted to be a part of the DataCite team! I joined DataCite in early July 2023 as the Operations & HR Manager. I am excited for this new opportunity and to be able to collaborate with such a great team of people. My responsibilities in this role will include supporting the daily operations of the organization as well as creating and maintaining HR policies and procedures.
