The Merge Users summary from the PKP OSLO Sprint, hosted by the University of Oslo in June 2025, is now available. Sprints involve PKP community members joining diverse groups to work on PKP software and support. The University of Oslo (UiO) hosted eight working groups at the PKP Oslo Sprint in June. This is a summary of one such group’s work.

After much reflection, the time has come for me to retire, effective at the end of this year. This marks the end of a deeply fulfilling chapter in my life — one filled with purpose, collaboration, and a shared commitment to open knowledge and community-driven progress in open source, open access publishing. I’ve been fortunate to work with so many brilliant people over the years, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved together.

PKP is launching a new collaboration with Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Master of Publishing (MPub) program and Lifelong Learning.

This post highlights production changes and plans for PKP software versions 3.5 and 3.6 that will lower the cost of publishing, increase accessibility, and support new publishing models. Note that while this post focuses on OJS, all PKP software (OJS, OMP, OPS) is built upon a shared codebase, which means some of the changes and plans also apply to OMP or OPS.
