As part of our ongoing efforts to improve PKP’s technical infrastructure (such as moving to Git for version control and issue tracking), and in anticipation of the upcoming OJS 3.x line, we are pleased to announce our new support forum: http://forum.pkp.sfu.ca The new forum runs on the open source Discourse platform, used by a wide range of sites including Boing Boing and How-To Geek.

As part of our efforts to sustain the continued development and enhancement of our free, open source software applications, including Open Journal Systems, Open Monograph Press, Open Conference Systems, and Open Harvesting Systems, the Public Knowledge Project operates a commercial service known as PKP Publishing Services (or PKP|PS). This is an optional service, providing extra assistance or hosting for an organization’s publishing activities.

The Public Knowledge Project team is pleased to announce the release of Open Monograph Press (OMP) 1.1.1. OMP 1.1.1 continues to solidify OMP’s status as a production-caliber monograph management system with continued bug fixes and feature additions: Static Pages plugin for CMS-like creation and editing of arbitarary page content Custom Blocks plugin for creation and editing of configurable sidebar content Improved German language support

Since the purchase of Metapress by Atypon Systems in April 2014, we have received numerous inquiries regarding the migration of Metapress-hosted content to Open Journal Systems. PKP Publishing Services is pleased to announce that we now provide migration support from Metapress to OJS. Whether you want to use us for your hosting solution or host elsewhere, we can assist with transferring your article and issue content safely and transparently.

We had the pleasure of inviting our far-flung community to join us for a few days of intense group work just prior to our 2014 Annual General Meeting. This was our second development sprint and once again a diverse and talented mix of people came together and exceeded our expectations.

Concurrent with the PKP Annual General Meeting, which takes place tomorrow October 3rd in Burnaby, Canada, PKP has published its annual report for 2013. The report includes updates for all our areas of activity: such as software development, research,  and community involvement.

You will find the release notes here, but some of the more exciting new features are: OJS now supports automatic CrossRef deposits. With this new version of OJS comes an updated “2.0” release of the CrossRef plugin, adding new functionality and features; such as automatic deposits. This plugin will see continued refinement and improvement as its use increases.
