Last year, we published a blog post announcing our decision to cease development on Open Conference Systems for a year while we dedicated our limited resources to Open Journal Systems and Open Monograph Press development. As that year comes to an end, we have made the decision to continue the freeze for another year.

PKP is happy to release a new guide, GDPR Guidebook for PKP Users . This guide provides advice for users of PKP applications on how to approach the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which goes into effect on May 25, 2018. It provides guidance on how to best configure OJS to be GDPR-compliant, and includes information on some of the policies that those using OJS with EU clients will want to consider. It is available here.

The jump from OJS 2 to OJS 3 is a big one, with implications both in terms of technology (planning and executing an upgrade) and training (helping editors learn the new system). On February 1st and 2nd, 2018 the German speaking OJS community met again for the third OJS-de.net conference in Berlin at Freie Universität. About 70 representatives from various German speaking universities, research institutes and libraries participated.

The Developing A Curriculum to Advance Library-Based Publishing project will host a pair of in-person workshops based on the first two curriculum modules released this spring, Content and Impact . Canada’s three federal research funding agencies – the Canadian Institutes of Health ($1 billion annual budget in 2016-17), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada ($1.1 billion), the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada ($380 million) – instituted an intellectual property law exception in 2014. It effects the publication of research and scholarship resulting from grants which they have awarded.

Our second PKP School course — on the OJS 3 editorial workflow — is now available! This course compliments Setting Up a Journal with OJS 3, released late last year, which covered the basic setup steps to get up and running. Like all PKP School courses, this one is also offered completely free of charge, but does require registration on the site.
